Hello and welcome
28/08 Macmillan Cancer Support's World's Biggest Coffee Morning
We are inviting neighbours, residents of Bridlingtonand visitors to join in the fun on Friday 29th September by taking part
in Macmillan Cancer Support's World's Biggest Coffee Morning.
Its amazing what having a laugh with friends over a cup of coffee can
do to help people living with cancer. A staggering £6.5 million was
raised last year from coffee events held across the UK, which helped
Macmillan to improve lives of those affected by cancer by providing
practical, medical, emotional and financial support and pushing for better cancer care.
We are taking part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of
Macmillan Cancer Support because its a great way we can help support the
magnificent work of Macmillan and everyone or the people around them at sometime have been touched by cancer.
Our Coffee Event is taking place at The Royal Hotel, Shaftesbury Road,
Bridlington on Friday 29th September between 11am and 3pm. We shall be offering hot drinks, homemade cakes and sandwiches. Our suppliers have been busy donating prizes for a raffle too. The food and drinks will be donated by the hotel and our staff have volunteered their time to help with the event. ALL proceeds will be donated to Macmillan.
For more information on this event please contact Fiona Garth or Tim
Norman on 672433.
01/08 Driffield Declares 'Safety First' for East Yorkshire
Driffield Declares 'Safety First' for East YorkshireThe town of Driffield is set to launch itself as the East Riding's first 'Safer Working Community' at the start of a wide-ranging week's activities (17 - 21 July 2006), spearheaded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) which aim to get the whole community thinking once - and then twice - about managing their own health and safety.
Local partners like the Fire Brigade, the Police, and the Primary Care Trust, are joining with HSE and ERYC to stage a series of sixteen free seminars throughout the week offering advice and information, alongside a number of safety surgeries where employers and employees can drop in for some free, confidential problem-solving from HSE's inspectors.
Add to this mix a 'Creating Healthy Workplace' Roadshow that incorporates fitness demonstrations and displays of exercise equipment, together with talks on recruitment and rehabilitation for disabled workers, displays on key health and workplace issues like alcohol, smoking and stress, and up-to-the minute concerns like safety in the sun.
Finally, combine it all with agricultural and general workplace safety stands sited at the entrance to this year's Driffield Show which also include an employer/employee quiz, a children's competition and balloons, and you have an all-encompassing initiative which aims to reach the whole community by creating a better working environment, with fewer workplace accidents and less time lost through ill health.
YOU ARE INVITED TO SEND A REPORTER/PHOTOGRAPHER ALONG TO COVER THE LAUNCH, WHICH WILL FEATURE THE FIRE SERVICE WITH A FIRE ENGINE , AT: THE DRIFFIELD COMMUNITY CENTRE, MILL ST, DRIFFIELD, 11am ON MONDAY, 17 JULY.
Says David Snowball, HSE's Regional Director for Yorkshire and Humber:
"This is an ambitious initiative because it brings together enforcing authorities, public service organisations, businesses, managers and employees. It's about helping people make sensible decisions about risks as the range and breadth of our planned activities amply demonstrates.
"We want to point the way for others to follow and look to make a difference to the working lives of people in the town, so we'll be concentrating on key health and safety issues that impact in the East Riding. We're looking forward to meeting people at all our events, especially at the Driffield Show. And, best of all, it's free."
Paul Mears, Health, Safety and Licensing Manager for East Riding Council, added:
"Our aim for the week is to assist local employers in making long-term improvements to the health and safety management within their workplace. These improvements should benefit employees and their families as a result of reduced accidents at work and work-related illness.
"A successful Driffield Safer Working Community Week will provide a firm foundation for similar future events throughout East Riding communities spreading the message that improved health and safety at work management is good for all."
