VETERANS TO ENJOY FREE ENTRY TO DUXFORD ON THEIR SPECIAL DAY
VETERANS TO ENJOY FREE ENTRY TO DUXFORD ON THEIR SPECIAL DAYImperial War Museum Duxford is pleased to announce that it will be
supporting Veterans Day by offering free admission to the whole Museum for
anyone who has served or is currently serving in the Armed forces on
Tuesday 27 June.
The first ever National Veterans' Day will be held on Tuesday 27 June
2006 and will be an opportunity to thank veterans for their contribution
to the society we live in today. Veterans are not just old infantrymen
or those who served during the First or Second World Wars, they are
anyone who has been a member of the Armed Forces or the Merchant Navy, and
come from a variety of backgrounds and service histories. National
Veterans' Day is a new annual Ministry of Defence initiative focusing on
all those who have served in the armed forces, both during and after
their military service, and who live and work amongst us today. The day
will celebrate and raise public awareness of the achievements and
contributions of veterans of all ages, not just hose who fought in conflicts,
but all who have served their country in uniform.
Says Tracey Woods, Duxford's Marketing and PR Manager: "We are
delighted to support this new Ministry of Defence initiative which highlights
the contribution that all service personnel have made to the world we
live in today. It is our pleasure to be able to offer free entry to the
Museum on Veterans Day as a small recognition of their bravery and
commitment to their country."
Imperial War Museum Duxford, in common with the other Imperial War
Museum sites, will be offering veterans of any age free entry to the Museum
(and free entry to an accompanying carer if necessary) and there will
be a display of archive photographs and quotations in Hangar 4 relating
to the Second World War. Veterans will be encouraged to add their our
thoughts on war to this exhibition.
